We’re at an exciting time of growth having recently returned from participation in the HTC ViveX Global Accelerator Program in Taiwan, China and the US. In May we were invited onto the IBM Global Entrepreneur Program and in June we joined the Amazon AWS Activate Program.

We are now looking for a talented Technical Artist keen on accelerating their skills in virtual reality development.  This is an exciting key role  for the right person interested in working in a dynamic startup with big plans.

Working in a relaxed, multidisciplinary and collaborative environment you will be open to learning and sharing your knowledge with your co-workers and be hungry to push the limits of your craft in the development of virtual reality environments.

Our team is still small but it means you can be across all aspects of our VR development and have your contributions and opinions heard and considered.

The role  

Here’s a list of some of the areas you’ll be working across:

  • Cross communicate between artists, programmers and designers
  • Setup and maintain the art production workflow and pipeline
  • Foster awareness of the game’s engine capabilities and limitations
  • Lead the charge towards efficiency vs space vs performance
  • Integrate assets without sacrificing artistic vision or exceeding performance limits of platform
  • Manage complexity and implement streamlined art techniques
  • Development and documentation of the technical pipeline
  • Scripting (export script, 3D package scripting, editor script, Lua)
  • Particle effects and VFX implementations.
  • Troubleshooting, debugging asset pipeline

Core Competencies

We’d expect you have the technical expertise, broad understanding of:

  • Advanced Unity or Unreal engine editor experience
  • Deep understanding of the development process
  • Comfortable dealing with the ambiguity of development and incubation work
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate well with a highly creative development team
  • The usual suspects – Rigging & IK , Lighting, Shaders , Post effects ,Scripting
  • Experience of AEC CAD/BIM packages would be awesome
  • VR / SteamVR

You will need to be based in Melbourne, Australia and you will work largely from our offices at Inspire9 at The Dream Factory in Footscray (where you will get access to some of the awesome resident community events held there – including rooftop yoga!).

We are initially looking for contract (3+months) commitment possibly moving to ongoing soon after. Renumeration is negotiable and we are open to part time applicants. And we encourage freelancers and contractors to apply.
